Choosing a Pillow For Your Toddlers Bed
Every milestone seems to be full of questions for parents, even a milestone as small as when to begin introducing a cot pillow. It is suggested that children should be over twelve months old before a cot pillow is introduced. It is important to ensure that the pillow you choose is safety checked and an official ‘cot pillow' rather than adult pillow. Adult pillows are far thicker and a suffocation risk to infants whereas cot pillows are quite thin and are manufactured with safety standards making them more breathable.
We should also mention that cot bed pillows are a plumper pillow suitable for older infants.
Cot pillows are thin, therefore they only raise the head slightly, thus introducing the use of a pillow over time rather than immediately. Remember to place your pillow at your infants head height (this may be only half way up the cot depending on your child's height), ensuring that their feet are still ‘at the bottom of the cot'.
You may wish to purchase a range of cot pillow covers, try to have at least two to three covers for washing rotation. Pastel colored pillow cases are a good option as they are easier to co-ordinate with your nursery colour scheme and theme. What's more, plain pillowcases are readily available in case you should need a replacement. You will also want to wash the actual cot pillow at times too. The ‘' is a washable pillow, simply wash at 40 degrees and leave to dry. Ensure that the pillow is completely dry before use.
