Metal Lamp
How should I go about removing finish from metal?
I have a metal lamp with metallic finish, and I need to spray paint it. I'm pretty sure the paint won't stick to it if I don't remove the finish, right? Should I just get some sandpaper and go at it?
The finish may really just be a metallic paint actually, cuz it's a pretty thick coat. Do you still believe primer will work?
OK.. This is easy. Get a can of spray primer. Set the lamp on a flat surface, cover the flat surface with paper and tape it down if you feel you need to. Hold the paint about 9" away from the lamp and spray left to right. Spray past your lamp to avoid drips and over spray. Let it dry completely, and then wipe it down gently with an old tower to remove paint dust. Repeat the process with you new color..
