Introduction To Hooked Rugs
The art of rug hooking is an art that has been praticed for hundreds of years. Believed to be originated in England in the 1800's, this hobby is praticed all over the world. The main attraction is creating a beautiful rug that is your own design that can be shown off for all to see. Also, who doesn't need any extra rug?
Rug hooking can simply be put as a technique by which rugs are created by using wool, yarn, and other various fabrics while combinding a design that is made from from burlap or a similar material.
The loops are pulled with the backing material utilizing a hand tool having a hooked end, similiar towards the end of a crocheting hook, however the tool is shorter in most cases has a thick wooden base for leverage. Even though some use the term latch hooking to explain rug hooking, the way of latch hooking is really different. Latch hooking runs on the hinged hook to form a knotted pile from short, pre-cut bits of yarn. With either technique, rug hooking or latch hooking, patterns could be formed on the surface from the rug by using different colored yarns, wool roving, or strips of fabric, for that various sections.
