All About Brass: Distributors and Uses

The skylines of New York and Chicago have one thing in common: they are a landscape of skyscrapers. Skyscrapers are structures with skyline heights. Modern engineering have made it possible to build tall buildings in cities. Buildings can be built for as high as 2,700 feet. Foundation posts of tall buildings are made up of metals. A brass is an alloy with a yellowish color. Brass materials have a smooth surface. They are less susceptible to friction. In skyscrapers, brass is used for locks and knobs. Brass is softer than iron and steel. Therefore, brass materials in foundation posts only serve as additional support for heavy metals. Nevertheless, brass is an important material in engineering. Aside from locks and knobs, brass metals are used for plumbing.

Nowadays, there are several brass distributors in the United States. They sell various brass products for house construction. They produce brass rods, tubes and pipes, sheets, coils, and wires. Some produce brass materials and sell them on the market. They act as manufacturers and sellers of brass products. Others get brass materials from certified suppliers. These distributors are known as wholesale brass distributors. Most engineers and contractors directly obtain brass materials from manufacturer-sellers.

Manufacturers and sellers produce brass materials from a mixture of elements. A brass distributor mixes copper and brass together. The mixture is heated for several times. After subsequent heating, the mixture becomes a compound. It is compacted and rolled in different shapes, as well as cut in various sizes.  The strength of a brass metal depends on its zinc content. Stronger brass compounds have a higher percentage of zinc.

After production, a brass distributor delivers the products from the factory to the retail outlet. Price depends on the size and feature of a brass product. Heavier brass metals are more expensive. Likewise, brasses with bigger dimension, perimeter, or circumference (for tubes and pipes) are more costly than smaller ones. Sometimes, prices of brass materials vary from state to state.

Moreover, a brass distributor considers the extent of a construction project. They give discounts for large volume purchases of brass metals. This lowers the cost of building construction. Engineers and contractors are able to spend more for steel and iron foundation of buildings. This preserves the durability of skyscrapers in the United States.
