The Big Buddha Temple – A Golden Sanctuary
The first thing you will see as your plane is about to land on the tropical island of Koh Samui, Thailand is the 12-meter statue of the Big Buddha. The attraction is visible from all parts of the small island. Koh Samui is also graced with clean beaches and seas that are clean as crystal glass. Asking any islander about this territory will always find them describing the Big Buddha statue, its temple and its other attractions as worthy places of exploring.
One of the temple's foremost attractions is the statue of the Golden Big Buddha that was built in 1972. It is a seated Buddha in the premises of Phra Yai temple adjacent to the Big Buddha Temple. Below the statue are many stalls. At these stalls, travellers can purchase a number of items and some of these include clothes, jewellery, Big Buddha amulets and many other souvenirs that are available for the interested tourist.
Travellers at night can enjoy the view of the Big Buddha Temple, as it is illuminated with lights boasting its breathtaking golden beauty. The statue has been a renowned attraction in the country and it has thronged many visitors to its sanctuary. The sanctuary is home to many other items, murals, statues and beautiful architecture.
A number of people in Thailand are known to be Theravada Buddhists and there are always joss and incense sticks lighting inside the temple. Travellers here will be surrounded by a spiritual ambience and enjoy a tour around shrine museum. Travellers can also make a contribution by offering the Big Buddha flowers or any other offering and light joss sticks. A visit to this location is a must and enthusiastic travellers will find this experience memorable.
