One of the most popular varieties of clawfoot bathtubs that is available, especially for those that are interested in a conversation piece are Antique Clawfoot bathtubs. You would probably be surprised with the number of these that are currently available for sale, but the real contest comes in finding one that is unique and will fit exactly into the decor of your existing bathroom. Here are some of the options that are available for you when you are looking for one of these tubs, where to find them and how to decide if you have found a good deal or not.
The price range for used Clawfoot tubs can be anywhere from just a few dollars, in the case of a more common tub that is in poor shape to several thousand dollars for a unique and classic tub that is difficult to find anywhere else. The most common of these Antique Clawfoot bath tubs are going to be the standard 60 inch tub which has a rolled rim and is all the same level on the top. You can usually pick these up for just the few hundred dollars in fairly good shape, and they do make an excellent addition to many bathrooms.
You may be looking for something that is a bit more unique, however, and there certainly are a lot of antiques that are available out there which will fit this bill. The real challenge comes in locating these tubs, however, as they are not typically found all in one area. There are some websites which specifically deal in Antique Clawfoot bathtubs, and these are a great place to start but you may also want to look on Craigslist, eBay or perhaps some local antique shops to see what is available.
Another major factor in the cost of these Antique Clawfoot bathtub is the condition of the Kohler clawfoot tub itself, including the paint and any existing fixtures which may be included. You are going to need to factor this into the price, especially if some major refinishing is necessary in order to bring it up to your standards. Although it is good to have an antique look on the outside of the tub in some cases, you certainly would not want to have a rough finish on the inside. Redoing one of these tubs requires some experience, and you can expect to pay over $500 for a professional to take care of it for you.
If it is not absolutely necessary that you have one of the vintage Clawfoot tubs in your home, some of the newly manufactured bathtubs can easily add a vintage look. Some of these manufactured tubs are also made of cast iron, but you may also want to opt for one of the acrylic tubs as they are almost as strong as cast-iron, but much lighter and easier to work with. Of course, it is going to have to be a personal decision but it is something that you may want to consider.
