How To Care For Your Brass Chandelier And Lighting
Most rooms in the house will look really classy with the addition of brass chandelier and lighting. The brass has the desired effect of giving the home a feeling of uniqueness. Often brass is associated with times of old and there is a market for this look in many homes. Spray paint can be used to update an existing one and the flexibility that this presents allows homeowners to style the home in a variety of ways. The crystals can be retained or changed for color that compliment the rooms existing color scheme.
For homeowners to do this themselves the following will be required twenty four gauge craft wire, crystals, spray paint, rubbing alcohol and glass cleaner. All of these can be obtained from the local do it yourself store. With some effort the home can be transformed into something special at a very low cost.
Homeowners should then remove the crystals and light bulbs from the chandelier. If the crystals are not going to be changed for colored ones then was the existing ones with the glass cleaner. If they are going to be changed then they can be discarded to packed away.
The rubbing alcohol can be used to clean the chandelier. Finger prints will be removed in this way and it assists in keeping the paint adhered to the surface. Before anything else is done the alcohol must evaporate completely.
Once the alcohol has evaporated, the surface can be sprayed with the paint. Most of these usually look better with modern designs. A nice touch is to spray the base with blue or purple paint thereby creating a gypsy effect. The surface should be covered completely and homeowners should be prepared to use more than two coats if necessary. Between each coat of paint the surface should be left to dry.
Black is quite a popular choice in terms of the chandelier. Homeowners often choose this as it is flexible and can be used to create a sophisticated or casual look. Bronze and nickel are ideal if the desired look is modern or sleek.
At this point the cleaned crystal can be reattached to the fitting. A further way to update this look is to change the color of the crystal. Black gives a very different look to that of sparkling clear crystals. The gypsy effect is best achieved with an array of colored crystals dangling from the fixture. These can be purchased from online or offline stores.
Crystals added to a plain fitting will update it a quite a special way. Hangers can be made by painting craft wire in colors that match the base of the fitting. Cut strips of wire wrapped around the arms of the fitting will be ideal for hanging the crystal. Online retailers should stock the glass trays that fit over the light fixture. Homeowners will note six small holes that can be used to hang the crystal. Restoring the brass chandelier and lighting in the home is a sure-fire way in which homeowners can make their homes look much nicer in a very cost-effective manner.
