Brass Candlesticks
What cleaning solution would you recommend for polishing brass?
I don't have any brass cleaner but do have other things around the house such as vinegar, baking soda, lemon juice, toothepast of course, cream of tartar. I have read on different websites that these are all OK for cleaning brass. But I wanted to get some recommendations from you guys before I got started. I was even thinking about going out and buying a half gallon of gas since it is good for cleainging some things.
I have some brass candlesticks (candle holders) that have become tarnished. I think brass cleaner is a bit expensive and don't want to wiat until I get the money.
Thanks.
First, is that brass lacquered? If so, do not use an abrasive cleanser.
Lemon juice and white vinegar mixed 1/2- 1/2 is a good cleanser.
GAS is a bad idea!
Here's an "old-fart" solution:
Dice a few white onions (not too small dicing), bring them to a boil in water, turn down the heat and let them steep for a couple hours. Strain (you want to save that "juice"). That water/juice is one of the best brass cleaners you'll ever find.
